Playa Maya by MIJ - Beachfront Hotel

Great place for an amazing price!

The stay was fantastic. The beach is beautiful but the staff was exceptional. We arrived early and they took care of us and got us a room right away. When we left we asked if we could leave our luggage for a few hours so we could pickup friends in Cancun. This too was ok. The manager was so helpful and nice she treated us like family. The massages were great as well we had one our first day and a second one the second day because they were so good. The rate was nice too. We woke up late and did not have time to try the breakfast before we had to leave for Cancun, so I don’t know about that. But overall it was wonderful and we will go back....

Hotel itself was nice but you had to come in through a beach entrance which was difficult with luggage and scuba gear - taxi could not drop you off at the door - so you have to drag your stuff through the sand. Streets are really torn up after all the storms that went through here this year. The restaurant does not serve dinner, only breakfast and lunch which is mediocre. But having the beach right at the hotel is nice.

Place clean, people (employees)very nice and helpful, Restaurant is expensive, the pool was close due to hurricane, it open the last day that we were here.

The staff were so friendly and helpful and the rooms were always clean. The beach is small but very nice

First off, we honestly weren't fully expecting that beachfront meant that the only access is via the beach, which was so narrow that by the time we arrived high tide had come and you had to walk through the water just to get to the hotel. Check in was easy enough. The door is interesting in that you have to use the key to lock it from the inside. After returning from our first excursion it was quite alarming that the cleaning staff left our door unlocked and all it required was a push to open up. We asked a staff member about it but never heard how the issue was resolved. I'm fairly certain our bathroom window backed into someone's balcony because everytime they opened the door and started talking it sounded like someone was in our bathroom. Beach is okay, very narrow and very rocky. Pool is small but okay. Hot tub was in desperate need if cleaning and getting shocked. The location to everything downtown and on the shipping strip was very convenient though, if you ignore having to walk through water to get to and leave the hotel. Honestly we have zero interest in going back unless they build a walkway to the hotel, but even then the door incident left a sour taste our mouths.

I have been using expedia and traveling locally and internationally for years.  Thus week alone i have made multiple reservations in the Cancun area.  This was to be my last night out. Had a difficult time locating the hotel. Apon arivle there was no one in the office was told could b an hour or 3 buy the cleaning staff. When the final arived we are in an office with no air. Fill out 10 forms that are in spanish only with a leaking pen. I do not expect to pay for this room at all. I picked of one the highest priced rooms and pre paid for my final night with my partner.  They then walk me into the low price room with out the king bed or hot tub That i had paid the extra for. Sit back in the lobby for 30 more min to finally get the room we asked for.  We finally have a chance to drop our bags and find some food. Get back to find that only the lights in our room work no fridge no tv no place to charge phone And we call a personal cell that was left to us that was off at 630pm and the only staff on sight did not know how to rest the power Hope that you can understand my frustration with a 90min check in process for a pre paid room...
