Hotel Coco Grand Ueno Shinobazu – Tokio

Location is wonderful. Walking distance to all the duty free shops and famous restaurants. Staff are very friendly and helpful. However, room is really small even in Tokyo. Suitable for those who doesn't spend much time in the room like shoppers. Overall, it is a great hotel for travelers to stay before going home.

I found this hotel because it was recommended by a travel guide. It is right on the edge of Ueno Park which makes it very convenient to the park, Ueno Zoo, and many museums. Additionally it has easy access to the Keisei Line which has direct routes to and from Narita Airport. The room was comfortable and compared to the other rooms we stayed in while visiting Japan, it was spacious. I did not get a chance to use the Spa (public bath house) so I cannot rate that but the amenities in the room were outstanding. Oh, almost forgot, my favorite thing was there was a massage pillow on the bed. Just the thing after walking around the park and museums all day. For the price, this hotel was outstanding.

Spent 2 nights in November for a guest lecturer gig at the University of Tokyo (walking distance btw). Staff is great, bed is comfortable and location is very conveniently accessible from Narita airport. The big plus is the yummy Japanese style breakfast (free). The one fault is the room and bath are really small. I struggled to find a space to open my suitcase...okay for one person, but for 2 people it may be quite cramped. Oh also, my iPhone 6 had trouble getting connected to the room's wifi (my laptop works fine), so that's a bit strange and frustrating.
