What a terrible stay. We arrived and there was a wedding at the hotel. They were having photos taken on the staircase, and to get to our rooms we had to go up the stairs. So we hung back for a few minutes. However with 4 kids in our party that wanted to get in the pool before the cut off for them. So we politely asked to get by which was greeted with tuts and nasty looks. The hotel is like a maze up and down stairs to reach the rooms. We arrived at our room to discover our keycard hadnt been activated. So had to slog back to reception. The room itself was clean but so outdated. We went to the pool and were told by the guy that kids had to be out at 7:30. We entered the pool to immediately be told by a very unpleasant Asian guy that kids had to be out at 7pm (this was 6:15). He was extremely rude to us as we left the pool too. We had booked a table in the bar for 7pm, wanting an informal meal with the children. We arrived at the bar were greeted by several extremely drunk wedding guests and one high table totally unsuitable for kids. The barman said we can seat you next door so we agreed but realised we were in a room right next to the wedding which made us extremely uncomfortable. The food is billed as luxury. How far from the truth is that. It was awful. We retired to our room after and put the kids to bed in the bunks. I ended up having to sleep in the bottom bunk as the draft from the window the kids were freezing cold! Avoid this hotel. Overpriced and a waste of money!

We enjoyed our stay with good beds, good service, good breakfast and good leisure facilities.

Firstly, I rang the hotel and explained that as I was disabled, I needed an accessible room with a shower not a bath. I was told, and was given, the only room with a wet room. What they didn't say was that it was in the basement, down 2 flights of stairs and across a ballroom that was not always lit. My Condition is changeable, so on this occasion I was able to manage with great difficulty. 6 weeks ago, in a wheelchair, I could not have accessed this room at all. Once in the room, the wet room area was good. The room was OK but the bed small. As I had struggled to the room, my husband went upstairs to eat and to bring something down to me as I could not do that twice more. It is unacceptable to charge £6.50 for a sandwich made from the cheapest supermarket white sliced bread, a bit of grated cheese and some Branston pickle. I understand that a grade 2 listed building has huge challenges when it comes to access, but you need to make this obvious up front. I would have had to decline and go elsewhere had my condition been at its worst.

Well looked after old hotel, would go again. Only stayed bed and breakfast. One evening had problem with door lock which took a long time to sort but was ok
