Mercure Birmingham North Barons Court Hotel

A really good choice for an overnight stay. The room was very comfortable with a great king size bed and plenty of floor space. The bath was deep and the water very hot. Reception was basic but Julie made us feel very welcome despite the need for masks because of Corinavirus.

Our room was a lovely size. The gentlemen on reception was very helpful. Unfortunately, the room cards were not working- the man said the machine had broken during lock down so our room door was ajar and we had to be met by a night porter when we returned just after midnight to be let in. There was no mention of the breakfast offering when I booked through hotels.com but the bag contained cereal, two bowls which were full of croissant crumbs, two soft green apples with wrinkles, a defrosted croissant wrapped in clingfilm cheap juice and milk. I don't think this was worth what we paid extra for having breakfast. The bathroom had cracked tiles and the door frame was dirty. The bed was clean and comfy.

Paid £9 for buffet breakfast which was not available only got a grab and go bag with cereal milk water and a orange No meals available and no bar Had to get the receptionist to let me in to room everytime i returned to hotel as no keys were being issued

Hotel and staff were fine shame about key card and lift problems

Everything was good except for the lift being out of order

Staff were great but my room smelt strongly of cigarette smoke and I couldn’t be moved. The building is old and whilst it has had a cosmetic uplift, the walls are so thin I could hear every word of my neighbours first phone call with someone he’d met on line. Lots of forced laughter in the middle of the night isn’t great. My bathroom was very tired and in desperate need of replacement. The shower went from freezing cold to scalding hot every few seconds. The breakfast was good though I’m pretty certain that it was instant coffee that was presented to me in a cafetière. I should have been there for 2 nights. I checked out after 1.

No breakfast on Sunday morning.... Had to wait 10 to 15 minutes after having paid. Lift out of order

Good hotel. Very clean & staff very helpful. A few little maintenance issues but nothing major. Will definitely pay another visit

When we arrived we were told the lift was not working and we were on the 3rd floor, I pointed out we had a small child and l have a severe heart condition which makes climbing stairs very very difficult. However, the receptionist told me that nothing could be done!!! The next day we came down for breakfast ( Sunday morning) which was advertised in our room to be available till 11am. However when we went to the breakfast room at 9.50 we were told that brealfast was finished and all the food left was cold!!! When we complained we were told that breakfast finished at 10am, that the cards in our rooms were wrong! That there were aware of this , but they had not got round to correcting them!!!!! The whole area and the hotel smells due to the land fill next door!

Well their was no lift working we was on 3rd floor with case not easy when you are age 76
