The Charlecote Pheasant Hotel

The room we booked turned out to be the bridal suite. As we were staying for our wedding anniversary this was apt. It was very comfortable and clean. Sadly, due to Covid restrictions we didn’t get the usual extras such as bath robes, nor was the coffee machine working, although a kettle and sachets had been put in as an alternative. The breakfast was ok and again Covid meant it was table service only. There was very little choice except a full English breakfast and the only other items available were cereals. There was no fresh fruit or yoghurts. Overall we had a pleasant stay in unusual times due to COVID-19 but the staff did their best.

This hotel is NOTHING like the photos. At least from my experience. The photos are completely misleading. It may be that there is a separate wing with beautiful period rooms and four poster beds as advertised but I saw nothing that even vaguely resembled them. We thought we were treating ourselves to a lovely hotel but we would have been better off in a chain like a Premier Inn or Travelodge which at least would have been clean if a bit soul less. We honestly wondered if we were even in the right place. It looks nothing like it does online or on Expedia. The guy who checked us in was great, very friendly. They give you your key and tell you the room number which is a bit annoying as you do instantly forget but no biggie. The room was not good. It was very bland. It would have been less disappointing if I had been expecting bland and we had paid for bland but all the photos show incredible rooms full of character and this had no character whatsoever. We were in a family room so perhaps they don’t put families in the nice rooms. I can’t be sure. The carpet was stained, the bathroom was dingy and full of mould, stains and dirt. The bed sheets were stained. The room was next to a fire exit that slammed all through the night as people came and went. The breakfast staff were surly. There are no menus, it’s a full English. It was only ok, very average and like everything in this hotel just a bit disappointing. So disappointing. Def would not recommend or stay again.

The room itself was very nice, really great welcome in reception and our two little dogs were very well accommodated throughout the whole stay. Food in the evening wasn't great - we were served chips covered in old and dried burnt bits (I actually thought they were covered in pepper at first!). The chef did come to apologise saying he just changed the oil (so it's ok to serve food like that?!) but really, he shouldn't have let the food out of the kitchen looking like that and for the price we paid, I expected more. Breakfast was pretty shocking, very limited choice and it was cold, probably vaguely heated up in a microwave if you had a hot breakfast. I asked what choices there were for breakfast and it was full english breakfast only. I'm a vegetarian so I had some toast (after several attempts as the bread basket only had a few slices in at a time). We were at breakfast for 9 so not an unreasonable time to go? There is a one-way system in place in the restaurant for covid-safety, but even the serving staff don't adhere to it. Overall the hotel is very tired and the staff are minimal and also very tired (the same staff in the evening as in the morning). The breakfast staff seemed irritable and frazzled. I think this was once a great hotel and the grounds are stunning - the once outdoor swimming pool has been abandoned and has grown into a pond, gates are hanging off the hinges etc. Just very unloved generally, which is sad as I imagine it was once great.

Our stay was very enjoyable, the rooms were very clean and comfortable, the food very tasty and plenty of choice, the staff polite and welcoming, would stay again

Nice establishment, good food, large car park, very good value.

Paid for an executive room and was a bit disappointed with it . Towel radiator in bathroom , the connector was held together with black tape .bathroom sink was blocked too.Room was too hot and no fan . Bed was very hard and uncomfortable on the left side , pillows not comfy either , definitely not executive standard.

Friendly check in. Room was across the car park up the stairs (no lift) to the first floor. Spacious clean room with a really comfy bed. A/C wasn't working in the room, the bathroom sink was blocked, the toilet cistern was leaking continuously and the bulb was out making shaving difficult. The breakfast was mediocre. Shame really as with a bit more management the staff could have made the experience a delight. No marmalade or salt and pepper at the tables is inescuasable. However, having said that it was a budget price for our night there and the bed was super.

Hotel was absolutely beautiful. Complimentary upgrade was also a great suprise and well appreciated.
