Very Good 8.0
Very Comfortable Stay
The NH City Centre was in a great location for a visit to Amsterdam. It's centrally located to Dam Square and shopping, a tram station, and at least two 5 star restaurants. It's well within walking distance to many attractions. The hotel room was clean and comfortable. The staff was attentive and helpful even succeeding in getting us a seat at a restaurant that was supposedly sold out for the only evening we could visit. The restaurant in the lobby might have been a good place for breakfast. We didn't try it only because it had a one price buffet style breakfast and we decided it was too much food to pay for and not eat. The reason for not getting an excellent rating overall had to do with the check-in process. When we arrived too early to take a room, the clerk promised us a "very nice room with a window and a bathtub." We put our bags in storage and went out to see Amsterdam. We arrived back late afternoon and were given a nice enough room on the 5th floor. But it wasn't the room promised. No bathtub. And not as nice a view as promised. I would have been happy had there been honesty. If you promise a room and give it away, that's not cool. The only other concern with NH City Center is that it is not the hotel for you if you cannot carry your bags up 12+ steps to the foyer. After that there are elevators, but the entrance is not disability accessible.
