Interesting neighbourhood being 'regenerated' as all around are new developments, the benefits of which seem to be passing most residents by. The area... has the feel of a small rural village where bed-time is 7:00pm or sunset, whichever comes last - the boulangeries were open longer than the local bars and there was nowhere except kebab shops and a mobile friterie to get something to eat. Despite that the neighbourhood However, within a 10 to 15 minute walk the Old Town of Lille - just beyond the brand new hotel/Casino development - was laid out, with eateries much in evidence around the area doninated by Gare Lille de Flandres. Shopping - looked good, if any of it had been open. In fact over the Sunday and Monday of Easter 2011 the place was basically closed for business apart from the afore mentioned brasseries and sandwich shops; ironically the Office de Tourisme was open and doing a roaring trade in selling the maps that are usually given away for free, souvenir chocolate bars with Lille branding and tickets to Belgian Grand War sites/towns such as Ieper/Ypres - might be better to stay there than Lille, I have and loved them. The hotel itself was modern and functional, the staff friendly and helpful - not helpful enough to keep the doors open until much after 9:30 - but its very much a Euro-style franchise. The bar was non-functional etc., etc. As a base to get some sleep, and a shower though its near perfect. I would actually stay again Steve R, (Matlock, United Kingdom) dne 28.04.2011
