Holiday Inn Express Charleston South – Charleston

We stayed one Saturday night and were very impressed. It looked brand new. The rooms were very clean and large with a couch/desk space besides the 2 beds. The pool was nice. Breakfast was very good. Would definitely recommend and stay again! If this hotel is rated 2 stars, then it is underrated. I would give it 4 stars at least.

My husband and I just went for a quick overnight stay to get away, nothing too specific. The hotel would be good for a stay with children. There were 4 restaurants within 20 years of the hotel, and probably 10 within half a mile as well as a strip mall and bowling alley and the hotel pool was clean and nice, though somewhat small. The only issue we […] had with the hotel was the renovations, they are apparently in the process of becoming a Holiday Inn Express, so the outside of the hotel was a little torn up (but the inside was just fine, couldn't even tell they were renovating) We would stay here again. Our room was clean and did not smell of smoke as was mentioned on other reviews. All employees of the hotel were friendly and attentive. I missed the breakfast as I slept in most days. Our room was well laid out and comfortable. It gave us room to do the things we needed to do and not get in each others way. Overall a very enjoyable stay. Friendly staff no doubt but hotel itself leaves a lot to be desired. We were assured our room was non-smoking but when we got there you could smell the stench of smoke. Atleast someone tried to cover up the smell with some sort of spray fragrance but the smoke stench was over whelming. Walls were paper thin, I could hear everything the people were saying […] who occupied the room next to ours, very annoying when trying to sleep at 11pm. We requested another room and this was accomodated (a handicap room) which was much quieter. The breakfast in the morning was a good addition but was crowded with kids and family so we just went to Mcd. We left at 10 am and the maid tried to come 3x to clean room before we left. This is my first experience with a Choice Hotels franchisee in many years, having written them off after several negative experiences in a row with their "Quality" and "Comfort" products. But my family requires three beds, I've found that suites tend to give better overall value than two cheap rooms, and in Charleston, this was the best available option. […] So I tried it, though I was not expecting much. The location appears convenient to I-77 on a map, and it is indeed close, but the byzantine interchange is disorienting and the property is set well back from the street, hidden behind other businesses, and the entry to it is easy to miss. The facility is cheaply built with an ungenerous floorplan and economy-class touches like flimsy plastic toilet seats, and our "suite" was just an elongated single room with an archway between the bed space and the area with the desk and convertible sofa, suggesting but not achieving separation between "rooms." Kitchenette features were limited to a microwave and mini-fridge, with the standard two-cup coffeepot in the bathroom area. Of special note was the weak WiFi signal--fluctuating between two bars and none in the bathroom area (nearest the hallway) and no reception at all in the desk area, adjoining the outside wall. This was in a second-floor "suite," midway down the hall. Though merely an irritant for my vacationing family, this could be a major concern for business travelers. (I did notice, upon arrival, a harried-looking gentleman camped in the tiny lobby with his laptop.) On the plus side, the room was clean, the beds comfortable, the cable TV choices numerous, and the continental breakfast choices adequate. Points off, however, for having Fox News blaring its propaganda at high volume in the breakfast room, creating a decidedly unfriendly climate for guests of differing political views. Very Nice Hotel, Great room, comfy beds, quite restful place. Great am breakfast buffet. Suasage gravy n biscuits - yummy, as well as a wide varity of hot n cold food. Great safe family hotel. Like the fridge n microwave. Close steak house. Well worth the $$$ will definatley book there again on the trip from sc to ohio and back.

The only thing I can say that's not positive about this hotel is to describe the parking situation; this hotel shares a small lot with a Country Inn and Suites, and to say it's inadequate for both hotels is an understatement. We have stayed in this hotel before & always had excellent service. It is very clean & well maintained. We would definately stay there again.

The staff were friendly and made every attempt to make my stay convenient. The breakfast buffet is true to what other reviews are saying: waffles are great, and there's good variety. The pool and hot tub were clean. My first room (100) smelled like a wet dog, but the staff moved me without hesitation upon request. The second room (306) was clean, comfortable, […] and had a couch/lounge which rounded it out nicely. The only big issue I had was with the WiFi, which did not work the entire visit. I had stayed in the area for business for the weekend and was more than inconvenienced by the lack of effort to resolve this issue. Only complaint was whoever was staying above us. It sounded like they were dropping bowling balls on the floor for hours. I tried to call the front desk several times and it kept routing me to an operator. I had to get up in the middle of the night to go to the front desk to complain that I couldn't sleep. This hotel was roomy and accommodated our family of 5 well. The breakfast that came with the room was excellent.
